OVERVIEW: The K‑745 Blue Shark (Chung Sang Eo) is a South Korean lightweight, acoustic-homing anti-submarine torpedo, optimized for short-range engagements of submarines from surface vessels, helicopters, and maritime patrol aircraft; it entered service in 2008. Designed to address littoral and deep-water threats, it provides the ROK Navy with an indigenous, versatile ASW capability.

DETAILS: The designation “K‑745” is South Korea’s domestic code and “Chung Sang Eo” translates to “Blue Shark.” Developed by ADD and manufactured by LIG Nex1, it features active/passive acoustic homing and is driven by an electric pump-jet. Entering production in 2005, it is capable of speeds exceeding 45 knots, a range up to 19 km, and carries a shaped-charge warhead. It is intended to be launched from ships, helicopters, and fixed-wing maritime patrol aircraft.
